In continuation of the traditional and spiritual activities of the ongoing annual Igue festival, the Benin monarch, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba Ewuare the second has performed Ugie – Otue – Oba rite.
Ugie Otue – Oba ceremony is a rite that offers immense opportunities for various categories of palace chiefs, functionaries including different guilds to pay homages and as well perform the traditional act of unalloyed allegiance to the Oba.
Significantly, the rite also allows palace chiefs and functionaries, according to their endowments or hierarchical order to enjoy the kindheartedness of the Oba with a presentation of kola nuts gifts as a gesture for their commitment and loyalty over the years.
The ceremony saw the display of different palace groups including ifiento (palace warriors), Ikpema (Royal Drummers) just as Emelhe (ancient royal praise singers) supplied spiritual rendition in line with the custom of the rite. (There was strict adherence to COVID-19 protocol)
