In a decisive move, the Oyo State Police Command has officially dismissed two Special Constabularies, Jimoh Lukman and Kareem Fatai, on allegations of extortion. Stripped of their Nigerian Police uniform, the officers faced expulsion from the constabulary service following a viral video capturing their attempt to solicit money from a Dutch tourist on a power bike traveling from the Netherlands to Abuja.
Commissioner of Police, Adebola Hamzat, presided over the dismissal at the state Police Command in Eleyele, Ibadan, citing a recommendation from the orderly room investigation. The dismissal underscores the command’s commitment to combat corruption and uphold professional conduct among its officers.
“The duo deliberately defied numerous orders and directives against professional misconduct, extortion, incivilities towards members of the public, and corruption,” emphasized Commissioner Adebola Hamzat. The action is seen as a deterrent to other officers with similar tendencies, marking the end of Lukman and Fatai’s association with the policing profession.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the command’s dedication to addressing corruption and professional misconduct, announcing heightened supervision of field officers through the command’s X-squad and monitoring unit during the Yuletide season and beyond.
