A flood scare in Ogun State, Nigeria, has led to residents of communities along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, particularly around Isheri, to evacuate their homes. This followed the release of water from the Oyan River Dam by the Ogun-Oshun River Basin Authority. Over the past days, the water level in the Ogun River has risen significantly, flooding areas around Long Bridge and other nearby estates, including Lekki Gardens, Queens Garden, and Airport Estate.
Residents began leaving their homes on Wednesday as the situation worsened, with many moving to hotels or safer locations. Several residents expressed concern that the flood might become as severe as last year’s crisis. A resident, Mr. Ayinde, shared that the evacuation in his estate began as floodwaters started to engulf the area.
Community leaders are urging the government to intervene, and residents fear a repeat of last year’s devastating floo
