The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended three suspects, namely Monsuru Musa, Adija Monsuru, and Shehu Dikko, for their alleged involvement in the attempted murder of a commercial motorcycle rider known as Tijanni. The incident occurred in the Afonta area of Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.
According to a police source in the area, the incident took place last Monday at approximately 6:10 pm. Tijanni sustained severe injuries to his head, neck, and lower lip as a result of the attack.
The trouble began when Monsuru hailed Tijanni and requested a ride to the Soyeye area from Lafenwa in Abeokuta. However, as they reached an isolated area just before the Soyeye community, Monsuru asked Tijanni to stop the motorcycle so she could make a call to her friend, who was also traveling the same route.
Shortly after the call, two other suspects, Musa and Dikko, arrived at the scene and joined Monsuru on the motorcycle. While starting the motorcycle, Musa and Dikko allegedly attempted to strangle Tijanni by tying a rope around his neck and tightening it firmly. Meanwhile, Monsuru reportedly struck Tijanni on the head with a large piece of wooden plank.
Fortunately, other motorcyclists, residents, and a team of police officers arrived at the scene and apprehended the three suspects before they could escape through a nearby bush.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Odutola Omolola, stated that the suspects were members of a notorious syndicate that specializes in stealing motorcycles. She added that their intention was to steal Tijanni’s motorcycle before they were caught.
The victim has been taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
It is worth noting that last year, the Amotekun Corps in Ogun State also arrested a suspect for the attempted murder of a motorcyclist in the Remo area of the state. The suspect posed as a passenger, attacked the motorcyclist with a knife, and stole his motorcycle.
The Ogun State Police Command is committed to ensuring the safety and security of residents, and it will continue to work diligently to apprehend criminals and bring them to justice.
