Ogun State Police Launch Investigation into Hit-and-Run Incident that Claimed the Life of a Pedestrian

The Ogun State Police Command is currently on the lookout for a hit-and-run driver who is suspected of causing a fatal accident on the Benin-Sagamu Expressway. The incident, which occurred on Sunday morning, resulted in the death of a 22-year-old female pedestrian, identified as Elizabeth James, and left another male victim hospitalized. The exact identity of the male victim has not yet been confirmed.

According to an eyewitness account, the incident took place at approximately 9:40 a.m. near a filling station in the Sagamu area of the highway. The unidentified vehicle was reportedly traveling at a high speed from the Ijebu-Ode area towards the interchange when it struck the two pedestrians who were waiting for a commercial bus by the sidewalk.

The witness stated that the car hit the pedestrians and left them unconscious on the sidewalk before fleeing the scene. The victims were immediately rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately, Elizabeth James was pronounced dead on arrival.

Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is currently underway. She added that the body of Elizabeth James has been deposited at the Fakoya Mortuary in Sagamu.

This is not the first incident of a hit-and-run accident in the region. Just a few months ago, on April 20, 2024, another tragic accident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, where a fully loaded truck collided with and killed an unknown pedestrian. These incidents highlight the importance of road safety and the need for drivers to be cautious and responsible.

The Ogun State Police Command is committed to ensuring that the hit-and-run driver responsible for this recent incident is apprehended and brought to justice. Investigations are ongoing, and the police are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation.
