Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has called on the Muslim community in the state to continue offering prayers and extending support to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, as Nigeria advances toward the 2027 general elections.
The Governor made the appeal during a special Walimah held in honour of his first anniversary in office. The event, themed “365 Days in Office Celebration Walimah of His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo,” brought together leaders and members of the Muslim community at the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub in Benin City.

A Year of Partnership and Inclusion
Addressing the gathering, Governor Okpebholo expressed deep appreciation to the Muslim faithful for their steadfast prayers, loyalty, and partnership throughout his first year in office. He described their unwavering support as one of the pillars sustaining his administration’s progress.
“It has been a long and challenging journey, but by the mercy of Allah who presides over the affairs of men, we have come this far,” the Governor reflected. He reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive governance, emphasizing that “Edo belongs to all of us, irrespective of religion or background. Our appointments and decisions are guided strictly by competence and capacity.”
Commitment to Unity and National Progress
Governor Okpebholo reiterated that the unity, peace, and prosperity of Edo State remain at the heart of his administration. According to him, governance must be anchored not on personal ambition but on genuine service and shared purpose.
“The interest of Edo State is greater than any personal or sectional interest,” he said. “That is why I continue to call on all to pray for our president. Nigeria is one. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a man of courage, character, and truth, committed to repositioning our nation through bold reforms. He deserves our collective prayers and support.”
The Governor pledged unwavering political and moral support for President Tinubu, declaring his resolve to secure a resounding victory for him in the 2027 polls.
“I have promised the president that we will deliver 2.5 million votes to him come 2027. Edo will continue to stand with a president who values competence, integrity, and national unity,” he announced to enthusiastic applause.
Sustaining Collaboration With Religious Communities
Reaffirming his bond with the Muslim community, Okpebholo assured continued engagement and openness to their counsel. He also emphasized the importance of cooperation with religious and traditional institutions in fostering development and harmony across the state.
“One love binds us together as a people,” he said. “I will continue to support our Muslim brothers and sisters, listen to their requests, and seek the prayers and guidance of our royal fathers.”
Commendations for Inclusive Leadership
The Special Adviser on Arewa Matters praised Governor Okpebholo’s inclusive leadership approach, describing him as a fair and compassionate leader whose developmental efforts are visible across multiple sectors.
A documentary showcased during the ceremony highlighted the administration’s achievements over the past year, including advancements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, security, and economic revitalization — captured under the governor’s philosophy of “Practical Governance that touches lives.”
In his goodwill message, former Edo State Deputy Governor Lucky Imasuen applauded the Governor’s calm and deliberate approach to leadership, comparing him to “a medical doctor at an accident scene — calm, deliberate, and compassionate.” Imasuen noted that Okpebholo’s administration embodies the unity and inclusiveness long desired by Edo people.
A Renewed Commitment to Service

The event concluded with a special award presented to Governor Okpebholo in recognition of his humility, dedication to service, and inclusive governance style.
As the celebration drew to a close, the Governor reaffirmed his commitment to steering Edo State toward a future defined by unity, competence, and faith. He promised that his leadership would continue to reflect the ideals of truth, progress, and shared destiny.
