Osun NURTW Chairman Denies Alleged Assassination Plot Against Adeleke’s Son, Seeks Police Protection’

The Chairman of the Osun State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Kazeem Oyewale, has denied allegations linking him to an alleged plot to assassinate the son of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke.

Oyewale, popularly known in political and transport union circles in Osun State, reportedly described the allegations as false, politically motivated, and aimed at tarnishing his reputation. He also appealed to security agencies, particularly the Nigeria Police Force, to provide him with protection against what he called intimidation and harassment.

The controversy emerged amid heightened political tensions in Osun State, where rival political camps and influential grassroots groups continue to clash over allegations of intimidation, violence, and abuse of power. According to reports circulating in local media, the allegations accused the NURTW leader of involvement in a supposed plan targeting one of Governor Adeleke’s sons. However, Oyewale firmly rejected the claims, insisting that he has no connection to any criminal conspiracy.

In his response, the Osun NURTW boss reportedly maintained that he remains a law-abiding citizen and stakeholder in the state’s transport sector. He urged law enforcement authorities to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the matter while ensuring that due process is followed.

Political observers note that transport unions in Nigeria, particularly the NURTW, often play influential roles during elections and political mobilization, making their leaders frequent subjects of political disputes and public scrutiny. The latest allegations have therefore generated widespread reactions across Osun State’s political landscape, with calls for restraint and adherence to the rule of law.

As of the time of filing this report, the Osun State Government had not issued an extensive official statement addressing the allegations beyond reactions already circulating in public discourse. Security agencies are also yet to publicly announce any formal investigation outcome regarding the claims.

The development adds to ongoing political tensions in Osun State, where security concerns and political rivalries continue to shape public conversations ahead of future political activities in the region.
