“OsunDecides 2026:” Adeleke Votes in Ede as Osun Governorship Election Enters Crucial Phase
OSOGBO, Osun State Osun State Governor and Accord Party governorship candidate, Ademola Adeleke, has cast his ballot in the 2026 Osun State governorship election, as voters across the state decide who will lead the state for the next four years.
Adeleke voted at Ward 02, Polling Unit 009, Abogunde Compound, Ede North Local Government Area, after arriving at the polling location at about 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 15. Reports from The Punch, Channels Television and Vanguard confirmed that the incumbent governor participated in the voting exercise at his home constituency.
The election marks a significant political test for Adeleke, who is seeking a second term after moving from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord Party ahead of the 2026 governorship contest. His candidacy places him in a competitive race involving candidates from several political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Adeleke’s decision to vote early in his polling unit allowed him to publicly exercise his constitutional right while the wider electoral process continued across Osun’s 30 local government areas. DataPHyte reported that 15 candidates were on the ballot for the governorship election.
The election has attracted considerable attention because of its potential implications for the political direction of Osun State and the strength of the competing political parties ahead of Nigeria’s broader 2027 electoral cycle.
Following the voting exercise, Adeleke raised allegations concerning the conduct of security personnel and alleged attempts to interfere with the election in some locations. Channels Television reported the governor’s claims, while also noting that the allegations concerned events outside his immediate polling unit.
The electoral process subsequently moved toward sorting and counting at polling units where voting had ended. Channels Television reported that voting generally witnessed strong turnout, alongside reports of technical challenges and allegations of irregularities in some locations, while security authorities described the overall situation as calm.
As voters complete the exercise and results begin to emerge from polling units, attention remains focused on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), political parties and observers to ensure that the final outcome reflects the votes cast by Osun residents.
