The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr Mohammad Bello, has reiterated that there would not be compensation for owners of illegally erected structures whose structures were demolished in Abuja.
According to him, most of these structures were illegally erected. He stated that there are guidelines for building in the FCT.
He stated that the ongoing demolition in the nation’s capital is to construct infrastructures in the FCT.
His words:“The policies and guidelines for building in FCT are very clear and well documented, the laws are there.“So what we are doing is basically to remove infringements and the issue of compensation will not arise because everything is illegal.
He added: “For instance, people decide to build on the road corridors; in most cases some of these buildings you will see that the administration have given many notices to them. But they still went ahead to build the illegal structures, so we keep demolishing.“But there are some areas that are part of our urban renewal and upgrade, if we need to take remove buildings either to expand the road corridors or create facilities for essential services, obviously these ones will be compensated.”
