Plateau State, known as Nigeria’s “Home of Peace and Tourism”, is facing a wave of violence, with 19 people killed in recent attacks in Barkin Ladi and Riyom Local Government Areas. The violence, blamed on tensions between farming communities and herders, has left residents living in fear.
Attacks began on 5 2026, with the killing of three herders, followed by attacks on farming communities, leaving nine people dead in Dorowa Bubuje village The violence has forced many to flee their homes, abandoning farms and livelihoods.

Residents and officials blame the attacks on armed gunmen, suspected Fulani militias, or bandits. The Plateau State Government has responded with increased security measures, including deploying troops and launching investigations. Governor Caleb Mutfwang has called for calm and urged security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend perpetrators.
The violence has sparked protests, with youths blocking highways and demanding action. The state government has promised to support affected communities and coordinate with federal authorities for justice.
