Two Magistrate Courts in Lagos have sent 83 suspected cultists, arraigned by the State Police Command for allegedly involving in cult activities to Prison custody pending the time to commence full hearing.
It was gathered that the remanding of the suspects became necessary when the charges was read to them and they pleaded not guilty.
It was reliably gathered that 25 out of the suspects were arraigned at the Yaba magistrate court, while the others were ducked at the magistrate court, Ogba.
The Police Public Relations officer (PPRO), CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu in a statement revealed that the suspects were arrested by police operatives at different locations in the state.
According to the statement, the arrest followed the directive of the Commissioner of Police Abiodun Alabi to the Tactical officers and other Special Units.
Ajisebutu stated that the clamp on cultists in the state would continue on regular basis.
It will be recalled that the Police Commissioner while unveiling his template and policing vision on his assumption of office vowed to ensure visibility policing and dominance of security space by ensuring the presence of policemen at all times to deter criminals as a preventive measure and ensure that Rapid Response Squad is encouraged and strengthened to respond promptly and effectively to citizens’ concerns.”
