Security operatives have arrested Adeniyi Adeyemi, who parades himself as the “Director-General” of the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, PFIPC.
Adeyemi was picked up on Tuesday at his hideout in Osun State following a bench warrant issued by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The arrest was carried out by a team of the Force Intelligence Department/Intelligence Response Team, FID/IRT, according to the Police Public Relations Officer.
Justice Mohammed Umar ordered the arrest after Adeyemi failed to appear in court for his arraignment despite several adjournments.
The case, which involves charges filed on November 27, 2025, began proceedings on December 4, 2025. Since then, Adeyemi has reportedly appeared only once.
During Tuesday’s hearing, Adeyemi’s counsel, Genesis Francis, told the court he could not persuade his client to attend. The lawyer said Adeyemi had written an open letter to President Bola Tinubu citing fears for his safety, given the public attention the case has drawn.
However, prosecuting counsel, Wisdom Madaki, opposed further delays. He urged the court to issue a warrant in line with Section 394 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, arguing that the repeated absences had stalled the case.
Granting the request, Justice Umar issued the bench warrant and adjourned the matter to September 30, 2026.
Sources said Adeyemi will be moved to the Police Headquarters in Abuja for further processing. Details of the specific charges against him are yet to be made public
The PFIPC is not recognized as an official government body. Authorities have previously warned the public to be wary of individuals operating under the name.
The case underscores the court’s stance on ensuring defendants answer charges, regardless of public interest or security concerns raised.
