The Edo State Police Command has recorded a breakthrough in its fight against crime with the arrest of a suspected armed robber and the recovery of a firearm and stolen items in Auchi.
The incident occurred in the early hours of May 2, 2026, following intelligence reports that a four-man armed robbery gang had attacked the residence of one Prosper Okologho in the Comprehensive Secondary School area of the town.
Acting swiftly, operatives from the Auchi Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, mobilised to the scene. On sighting the police team, the suspects fled in different directions, abandoning a bag containing a cut-to-size locally made firearm, a live cartridge, and a mobile phone.
A coordinated manhunt launched immediately after the operation led to the arrest of one of the suspects, identified as Aliu Mustafa, at about 9:00 a.m. the same day.
Further investigation resulted in the recovery of additional items believed to have been stolen from the victim, including two mobile phones, a wristwatch, and a bag.
Confirming the development, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Monday Agbonika, commended the оперативes for their swift response and professionalism.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, while urging residents to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing policing efforts.
Police said the suspect remains in custody and is assisting with investigations aimed at apprehending other members of the gang.
