The Edo State Police Command has assured the public of a thorough investigation into the tragic death of Osaiyekemwen Ugbo, which reportedly occurred on April 1, 2026, in Abuja.
According to the Command, the incident was formally reported by Osasenaga Ugbo Samuel of Ute Community in Edo State. The report indicated that the deceased’s husband, Evans Ehigiemusoe, aged 39, allegedly informed the family of her death on April 2, 2026.
The family further alleged that the deceased had been subjected to prolonged domestic violence, which they believe may have contributed to her untimely death.
In a statement, the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Monday Agbonika, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to justice, stressing that cases of this nature are treated with utmost seriousness.
He disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed that the alleged offence did not occur within Edo State’s jurisdiction.
“Nevertheless, the Command will carry out diligent preliminary processes required to gather relevant evidence. The matter will subsequently be transferred to the Federal Capital Territory Police Command for further investigation and possible prosecution, in line with the Administration of Criminal Justice Act,” the statement said.
The Police also confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody.
The Command commiserated with the family of the deceased, assuring them that their demand for justice will not be ignored.
Residents have been urged to remain calm, law-abiding, and allow the legal process to take its course.
