The Imo State Police Command confirmed the arrest of Collins and Onyinyechi Iwunze during a targeted operation carried out in Owerri West Local Government Area. According to police authorities, the suspects were apprehended after intelligence-led surveillance linked their residence to suspected narcotics activities.

Police spokespersons disclosed that officers conducted a coordinated raid on the property, where quantities of suspected illegal substances were reportedly recovered. While officials did not immediately release full details of the seized materials, investigators stated that the operation formed part of ongoing measures to dismantle drug supply chains contributing to rising crime and youth addiction in the region.

Authorities said the suspects are currently in custody and undergoing interrogation as investigators work to determine the scale of the alleged trafficking operation and identify possible accomplices or distribution networks beyond Imo State.

Law enforcement agencies across Nigeria have recently stepped up anti-narcotics operations amid growing concerns over the proliferation of illicit drugs and their connection to violent crime, public health risks, and organized criminal activity. Security analysts note that coordinated intelligence gathering and community reporting have increasingly become central to successful crackdowns.

The Imo State Police Command reiterated its commitment to combating drug related crimes and urged residents to provide credible information that could assist ongoing investigations. Officials emphasized that suspects remain presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The arrests come as Nigerian authorities continue broader collaboration with anti drug agencies to strengthen enforcement and reduce trafficking routes across the country’s southern corridor.
