The Edo State Police Command has condemned in strong terms the recent violent attack on a police officer by a group of miscreants along Upper Sakponba Road, Benin City.
Describing the incident as a criminal and reprehensible act against lawful authority, the Command emphasized that such lawlessness against security personnel performing their legitimate duties is totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Command reaffirmed its commitment to peace, law, and public order, warning that any individual or group who assaults police officers or any security operative will face the full weight of the law.
Contrary to misleading reports making the rounds on social media, the Command clarified that no life was lost in the incident. Calm has since been restored in the area, while investigations have commenced to uncover the cause of the attack, identify those involved, and bring them to justice.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc, urged parents, guardians, community leaders, and youth organisations to sensitise their wards on the importance of respecting security agencies and maintaining order in the society.
The Command reiterated its unwavering resolve to safeguard lives and property, assuring that it would continue to discharge its duties with professionalism and integrity. However, it cautioned that decisive action would be taken against anyone who endangers the lives of police personnel or attempts to undermine the authority of the Police.
