The Rivers State Police Command has dismantled a child trafficking network, rescuing four children aged between one and 13 in the Rumukwachi community near Port Harcourt.
Authorities arrested Esther Anthony, a key suspect, along with another individual believed to be involved in the trafficking scheme. The children were found at a guest house, where they were reportedly awaiting transfer to a nurse operating a maternity home.
According to the police, the guest house manager became suspicious when Anthony attempted to leave with the children without presenting their mother. The manager contacted the Choba Area Command after Anthony falsely accused him of abduction. Investigations revealed that Anthony, in collaboration with an accomplice, trafficked the children from Bayelsa State.
Another suspect, Purity Silas, was also apprehended. Anthony was further identified by a family as the individual responsible for stealing three of their children in an earlier incident.
Police confirmed that the suspects had confessed to the crime and would face charges in court following further investigations. The rescued children have been reunited with their families.
The Rivers State Police Command emphasized its commitment to combating child trafficking and ensuring justice for affected families.
