The Edo State Police Command has distanced itself from comments made in a viral social media video involving the Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, during an official engagement.
In a statement issued on April 24, 2026, the Command said the remarks in the video were made solely by Emmanuel Eghogho, a comedian based in Benin City, and do not reflect the views or position of the Commissioner or the Command.
According to the statement, the Commissioner did not at any time endorse or align with the comments. It added, however, that the remarks are being reviewed to determine if they pose any security concerns beyond entertainment.
The Command reaffirmed that CP Agbonika remains a professional and non-partisan officer committed to upholding the constitutional duties of the Nigeria Police Force.
It also reiterated its earlier call for political parties, supporters, and the public to conduct their activities peacefully and within the law.
While affirming citizens’ rights to pursue lawful political interests, the Police warned that any form of violence, incitement, or actions capable of disrupting public peace will not be tolerated, stressing that offenders will face the full weight of the law.
The Command assured residents of its continued commitment to maintaining peace, safeguarding public safety, and protecting democratic processes across Edo State.
The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.
