The Edo State Police Command has begun an investigation into the alleged murder of Glory Adekolure, a graduate of the University of Benin (UNIBEN). According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwabuzor, the incident occurred on June 13, 2024, when Adekolure was returning home from school after her final clearance.
Adekolure’s brother, who goes by the username @softbaba on X.com, took to social media to demand justice for his sister. He claimed that she was beaten, raped, and killed in the Iyowa community area of Benin, the capital of Edo State. Her body was found close to their house. He called on Nigerians, especially the police, to help unravel the mystery surrounding her death.
In response to inquiries, Nwabuzor confirmed that the police had commenced an investigation into the matter. However, he did not disclose if any arrests had been made, stating that it was not appropriate to disclose such information at this stage of the investigation.
The spokesperson for the University of Benin, Benedicta Ehanire, stated that she was not aware of the incident and would inquire from the Dean of Students for more information.
The police assured the public that they would continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Adekolure’s death and provide updates on the progress of the investigation.
It is deeply saddening to hear about the alleged murder of a young graduate who had her whole life ahead of her. The family and friends of Glory Adekolure are seeking justice for her untimely and tragic death, and it is important that the authorities conduct a thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice. Our thoughts are with her loved ones during this difficult time.
