The Edo State Police Command has commenced an investigation into a viral video showing a disturbing bullying incident involving a student of Igbinedion Secondary School in Benin City.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikioedem, said the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, had directed the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area to immediately visit the school and conduct a detailed inquiry into the incident.
According to the statement, the management of Igbinedion Secondary School confirmed that the students involved in the bullying had already been expelled as part of disciplinary measures taken by the school authorities.
The police, however, noted that despite the action taken by the school, the command has launched a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
“The Command wishes to assure the public that the perpetrators involved in the bullying incident will be arrested and made to face the law accordingly, in line with their respective ages and in accordance with the provisions of the law,” the statement said.
The police further condemned acts of bullying, violence, and intimidation among students, warning that anyone found culpable would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The command also urged members of the public to remain calm and support the police with credible information that could assist in the ongoing investigation.
