The Edo State Police Command has intensified its fight against crime with fresh breakthroughs, including the recovery of a stolen vehicle and the arrest of an armed suspect with ammunition in separate operations across the state.
According to a statement from the command’s spokesperson, operatives of the Oba Market Police Division, while on routine patrol on June 2, 2025, along Ireghie Street off Ero Palace Road, Benin City, intercepted a black Toyota Camry Saloon car with registration number BEN 962 CN. On sighting the police, the occupants of the vehicle abandoned it and fled on foot into the nearby neighbourhood.
Preliminary investigations confirmed that the vehicle belonged to one Enakhe Samuel Esizobor and had been snatched at gunpoint on June 1, 2025, at Omoruyi Street, Isihor Community, Ugbowo, Benin City, by armed robbers still at large. The recovered vehicle has since been returned to its rightful owner while efforts to track down the fleeing suspects are ongoing.
In a separate incident, on June 12, 2025, operatives of the Iguobazuwa Police Division, while conducting a stop-and-search operation at Pipeline axis along the Benin-Ogbese Road, arrested a suspect identified as Samuel Ahambe, 33, of Ulakpa Camp, Ugbokin village.
A swift search on the suspect led to the recovery of a locally fabricated Beretta pistol and two live rounds of ammunition. Preliminary findings suggest the suspect may be a member of a gang responsible for terrorising commuters and motorists along the Benin-Lagos Expressway.
The police command confirmed that investigations are ongoing to apprehend his accomplices and recover additional weapons.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining the fight against crime in Edo State. He vowed to bring criminal activities to their barest minimum, pledging a continuous clampdown on criminal syndicates across the state.
