On Friday evening, a group of police officers driving their official vehicle ran over a middle-aged man in handcuffs, sending the university town of Ekpoma in the Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State into a state of panic.

The man in handcuffs was seen lying in front of the police van in a video that went viral online on Friday.

The police van’s panicked driver ran over the man and dragged him along the road for a few meters while some people conversed with the officers.

The incident caused the crowd to yell, but the police quickly dispersed the enraged crowd with their shots.

The representative of the Edo State Police Order, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, in a press explanation, said the police officers have been captured.

The assertion read to some degree: ” The Edo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that it is aware of the trending social media video in which a group of police officers driving a Sienna, which is used for police patrol, run over a handcuffed young man.

“The facts of the incident as gathered preliminarily indicate that on 29.06.2023 at approximately 17:00 hours, ASP Magdalene Osayande reported to Ekpoma Divisional Police Headquarters, Ekpoma, Edo State, that while on routine stop and search duty along Ihumudumu Road, Ekpoma, Edo State, intercepted a driver of an unregistered Lexus car and demanded the vehicle particulars,” according to the investigation.

“Along the line, he became forceful and would not oblige the solicitation of the Police agents, yet rather went after them, incurred wounds for them, and annihilated the police vehicle.

However, prior to the incident that is currently trending on social media, he was arrested, handcuffed, and identified as Success Ehimare. He was later transported to Irrua Specialist Hospital for treatment, where he is currently in good health.

“In light of the foregoing, CP Mohammed Adamu Dankwara has criticized the actions of the police officers depicted in the trending video, describing them as barbaric, inhuman, and unprofessional.

As a result, he instructed Divisional Police Officer Ekpoma to identify, apprehend, and bring the suspect to the State Police Headquarters in Benin for a briefing and debriefing. The officials have been captured, and they are with the State Criminal Examination Division.”Police van runs over bound man, officials captured
