Samuel Adegboyega University, Ogwa, Edo State has instituted tuition free programmes, as a way of giving back to the the Nigerian society.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Adewumi Idowu, made the announcement while briefing the press ahead of the 6th and 7th Convocation Ceremony of the institution, scheduled to hold from Thursday, November 25 to Sunday, November 28, 2021.
The University will also be celebrating its 10th Anniversary, having been established by the Apostolic Church Nigeria, LAWNA Territory in 2011.
Prof. Idowu explained that the tuition free programmes which will be effective from the 2021/2022 Academic Session was in line with the founding fathers’ desire to make education accessible to all in the society.
The Tuition Free programmes according to the vice chancellor, include Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Religious Studies and Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Philosophy.
Speaking on the Convocation, the vice chancellor, Prof. Idowu disclosed that the university would be graduating a total number of 208 graduate in the combined Convocation, with 20 students graduating with First C!ass Degrees, and the others graduating with Second Class Honours with prizes.
He disclosed that the university would also be graduating its first set of Post Graduate students, just as he announced that the Law Programme of the institution has been mounted following approval by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
He similarly revealed that the school has secured approval from NUC to run part-time programme, disclosing that the part-time programme of the institution would commence in the 2021/2022 Academic Session.
In the area of research, the vice chancellor said the university through the department of Biological Sciences and Chemical Sciences have embarked on research to improve the preparation of the staple food in its host community.
“Just recently, the Departments of Biology and Chemical Sciences experimented a more refined technique of producing fufu or emah by adding proteins in the process”, he said.
