PROFILE: Tunji Disu Takes Charge as New Inspector-General of Police

Assistant Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu has emerged as the new Inspector-General of Police, bringing to the position years of operational and intelligence experience across key commands in the Nigeria Police Force.

Disu began his rise to national prominence as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos, where he served from 2015 to 2021. During his tenure, he led several high-profile operations aimed at tackling violent crime, kidnapping and armed robbery in the state.

In August 2021, he was appointed Head of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT), one of the Force’s elite tactical units responsible for combating organized crime and conducting intelligence-led operations nationwide.

He later served as
Commissioner of Police in both the Federal Capital Territory and Rivers State, where he oversaw policing operations in two of the country’s most strategic and security-sensitive locations.

In February 2026, Disu was posted as Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Lagos, further strengthening his experience in criminal investigation, intelligence coordination and law enforcement management.

His appointment as Inspector-General of Police is expected to usher in renewed focus on intelligence-driven policing, crime prevention and reforms within the Nigeria Police Force.
