Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has assured residents that the ongoing construction of the Ramat Park flyover in Benin City will restore full operations at the Appeal Court and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office, both affected by persistent flooding in the area.
The governor gave the assurance while inspecting the project site, noting that years of flooding had disrupted activities of key institutions and businesses around Ramat Park.
Speaking to journalists, Okpebholo said the flyover and its accompanying drainage infrastructure would provide a lasting solution to the environmental challenges that forced both the Appeal Court and INEC to scale down operations.
“Flooding in this area has threatened businesses and critical government institutions, including the Appeal Court and INEC. With what we are doing here, we are confident that normal operations will be restored after completion,” he said.
He disclosed that the flyover project has reached about 90 per cent completion, while drainage works are approximately 70 per cent done. The governor expressed optimism that the project would be completed before the peak of the rainy season to prevent further disruptions.
Okpebholo reiterated his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, describing the project as vital to easing traffic congestion and protecting economic activities in the area.
Also speaking, the project’s site engineer, Femi Fatola, confirmed that work is progressing on schedule. He said bridge construction has surpassed 90 per cent completion, while drainage works are nearing the final stage at about 70 per cent.
“The level of work done so far shows that we are on track to meet the stipulated timeline. Once completed, flooding in this area will largely be a thing of the past,” he said.
During the inspection, the governor also visited other ongoing projects, including the Sapele Road flyover, as well as road construction works at Charismatic Road and Upper Ekenwan Road, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving road infrastructure across Benin City.
