Residents of Fadeyi in the Somolu area of Lagos State are living in fear due to the increasing activities of hoodlums in the community. The residents, who spoke to , expressed their concerns about the constant terrorizing by boys between the ages of 16 and 20. These hoodlums not only target the residents but also harass business owners in the area. The gang has even gone as far as preventing the police from taking action against them.
One of the recent incidents involved an attack on a staff member of a water company, Segun Ojeleye, in the Alhaji Calfo area of the community. Ojeleye was attending to a customer when the boys alleged that the company’s truck hit a bypassed electric pole. This led to an argument, and one of the boys reached for a bottle and stabbed Ojeleye. The victim was seriously injured and had to undergo major surgery at the General Hospital in Somolu before being transferred to Igbobi Hospital.
The hoodlums in Fadeyi have also been extorting business owners who purchase new items for their businesses. They demand exorbitant amounts of money before allowing the goods to be offloaded or started. Additionally, the gang is known for harassing and molesting young girls in the area. The residents are appealing for the intervention of the police to deal with these criminals decisively.
Unfortunately, the police division in the area seems helpless and tired, as the officers refrain from interfering due to the threats they receive from the hoodlums. The residents are calling on the police authorities to take immediate action and bring an end to the reign of terror in Fadeyi.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, could not be reached for comment at the time of this report. The residents are hopeful that the police will respond to their complaints and take necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of the community.
