Residents at Oyede Avenue Plaza in Sango-Ota, Ogun State, made a grim discovery on Sunday as they found the decomposing body of a newborn baby.
The mother, 21-year-old Esther Ojuko, allegedly killed the baby, wrapping her in a sack and discarding her in a nearby compound. The exact age of the deceased baby remains unknown.
The state police suspect Ojuko might have been mentally unbalanced during the crime.
The unpleasant smell led residents to uncover the tragic scene, prompting one resident to report the incident to the Sango-Ota Police Division. The police have arrested the mother, and an investigation is underway.
The deceased baby’s body is at the Ifo General Hospital mortuary for an autopsy, as confirmed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola.
