The Senate has called on President Bola Tinubu to revamp the security response to the continuous attacks by bandits in the North-West and North Central regions of Nigeria.
They have also urged the President to establish a task force to secure farmlands, ensuring increased food production and security. These measures are seen as crucial in addressing the rising cost of food items across the country.
The motion was introduced by Senator Nasiru Zangon-Daura, who highlighted the escalating insecurity in the North-West and the lack of results despite the allocation of funds to security agencies. Senator Aminu Tambuwal suggested declaring a state of emergency in the North-West to enable the military to take decisive action against the bandits. Senator Abba Moro emphasized the need for immediate action, and Senator Muntari Dandutse called for better coordination among security agencies.
TheSenate also emphasized the importance of collaboration between security agencies, state governments, local communities, traditional leaders, and stakeholders in gathering intelligence. Furthermore, they extended the resolutions on security in the North-West to the North Central geo-political zone. It is crucial for the relevant authorities to address the security challenges in these regions to ensure the safety and well-being of the people.
