The Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok Ibas (Rtd.), on Tuesday swore in the newly elected chairmen of the state’s 23 local government councils.
The ceremony, held at the Government House in Port Harcourt, followed the presentation of certificates of return to the winners by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).
In the local government elections conducted on Saturday, the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured victories in 20 of the 23 councils, alongside councillorship seats in the same number of local governments. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), meanwhile, won two councils and three councillorship positions.
Notably, some of the newly inaugurated chairmen previously served under former Governor Nyesom Wike’s administration.
