Edo State Deputy Governor Rt. Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu has denied allegations that the state government has sacked 513 staff of the Sports Commission.
Addressing protesting staff at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Shaibu described the news of their sack as mere rumour.
Shaibu explained that government was only working on re-deploying some of the redundant staff to other ministries and agencies of government while only those still fit to participate in active sports will be left in the commission, adding that even the process was yet to be concluded.
The Deputy Governor urged them to disregard any circular purporting their sack, insisting that the state government has not taken a final decision on the reorganization.
Shaibu informed them that the state will soon commence an open camp for athletes ahead of the National Sports Festival in Delta State. The festival is slated for
November this year.
The sack rumour has thrown the entire work force at the sports commission into confusion in the last three days, following a memo purported to have been leaked from registry of the commission.
