Vice-President Kashim Shettima has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has remained faithful to his promise to rebuild Nigeria, citing the administration’s economic reforms and development initiatives.
Shettima made the remarks while representing President Tinubu at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally held at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
The rally also witnessed a significant political development, as governorship candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in the last Ekiti governorship election declared support for Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the January 16, 2027 presidential election.
Addressing the gathering, Shettima acknowledged the sacrifices Nigerians have made in response to the government’s economic reforms, maintaining that the administration’s commitments were being fulfilled.
“We know the sacrifices you have made, and we are beginning to reap the benefits of those difficult decisions. His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has remained faithful to the commitments we made to you,” the Vice-President said.
He added that the administration had returned to account for its achievements and outline the work that remained, while seeking another mandate to continue its programmes.
Shettima also appealed to Ekiti residents to renew their support for Tinubu, particularly in the areas of healthcare, electricity and other essential services.
At the rally, Governor Biodun Oyebanji pledged that Ekiti State would deliver at least 90% of its votes for President Tinubu in the forthcoming presidential election.
Oyebanji attributed the proposed support to federal government projects and interventions across the state, particularly road construction and other infrastructure developments.
He said the state intended to demonstrate its appreciation for the President’s support by delivering an overwhelming electoral mandate in 2027.
The governor also described the participation of opposition political figures at the rally as evidence of growing political cooperation in the state.
In a notable show of cross-party political alignment, governorship candidates of the PDP, SDP and APM in the last Ekiti governorship election pledged to mobilise their supporters behind Tinubu’s re-election campaign.
The opposition figures said their decision was driven by their interest in the unity and continued development of Ekiti State, stressing that their commitment went beyond political party affiliations.
Their declarations added another dimension to the APC’s campaign activities in the South-West as political parties and stakeholders begin positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Other prominent figures at the rally included APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, former APC National Chairman Senator Adams Oshiomhole, former Ekiti governors and other political leaders.
Shettima maintained that the decision to continue the administration’s reform agenda ultimately rested with Nigerians, urging Ekiti residents to support the President for another term.
The January 16, 2027 presidential election will determine whether Tinubu secures a second four-year mandate.
Vice-President Kashim Shettima says Tinubu has kept his promise to rebuild Nigeria as Ekiti Governor Biodun Oyebanji targets 90% support and opposition governorship candidates pledge backing for the President’s 2027 re-election bid.
