Some Prisoners Escaped From Criminal Investigation Dept’s Cell In Edo

Obaland magazine learned that Ten lawful detainees have escaped from the Cell of the State Criminal Investigation Department (State CID) of the Edo state police command headquarters in Benin City, Nigeria.

Standard Gazette learned that the ten suspects strolled out of the cell unhindered and unchallenged on the night of 31 December 2020 (NEW YEAR EVE).

Investigation revealed that there were policemen posted on duty which they call Counter Duty with another squad referred to as Cell Guard.

At about 9 PM on 31 December 2020, one of the policemen had gone to attend to one of the detainees and thereafter locked the cell with a padlock but unknown to him that it was not locked very well as the lock did not fit in properly.

One of the detainees who observed that the padlock did not properly fit into the cell iron burglary proof then told others in detention of the present situation where they then agreed to escape from the cell one after the other.

But the whereabouts of other policemen on duty that night could not be immediately verified by the correspondent as the police authority have the Will and Capacity to probe the development.

Within a range of 15 minutes, ten suspects have already escaped from lawful custody.

A piece of alleged information came that no kidnap or armed robbery suspects escaped, as the special cell made for such suspects are still intact as at the time of filing in this report.
