The Supreme Court of Nigeria has affirmed Senator Monday Okpebholo as the duly elected Governor of Edo State, bringing an end to all legal disputes arising from the 2024 Governorship Election.
In what has been described as a landmark judgment, the apex court’s verdict is seen not just as a legal resolution but as a reaffirmation of the democratic will of the Edo people. The ruling opens a new chapter of governance rooted in unity, inclusion, and accelerated development.
Governor Okpebholo, in his reaction, expressed deep appreciation to the judiciary for its courage and commitment to justice. He also thanked the people of Edo State for their steadfast support, patience, and belief in the democratic process.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering on its developmental blueprint, with key focus areas including security, infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, youth empowerment, and job creation.
In a statesmanlike gesture, Governor Okpebholo extended an olive branch to his political opponents, urging them and other leaders across party lines to set aside differences and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the state.
Governor Okpebholo concluded by inviting all Edo citizens to join hands in building a more united, peaceful, and prosperous state, stating, “Edo belongs to all of us. Let this moment mark the beginning of a new era of collaboration and service.”
