A suspected Improvised Explosive Device detonated beneath a parked Toyota Sienna in Oke Mushin, Lagos, on June 22, injuring the vehicle’s owner and sparking panic.

The blast occurred around 6 a.m. at 22, Wey Street, as the owner tried to start his gold Sienna, reg. no. AAA11FX, which had been parked overnight. The explosion ripped out the passenger side and scattered glass across the street, leaving burn marks and explosive residue on the ground.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal operatives swept the area and found no additional explosives. “Remnants of the IED have been recovered for forensic analysis. The area has been certified safe, and there is no cause for alarm,” Fatai said.

He urged residents to stay calm and continue normal activities, adding that security agencies are monitoring borders and remain vigilant.
