Suspected Traffic Robbers Arrested in Lagos, Reveal Drug and Gambling Habits

The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit, also known as the Lagos Task Force, has apprehended four individuals suspected of robbing motorists stuck in traffic. One of the suspects, Ismail Akinlade, admitted to spending the proceeds of the robberies on drugs and gambling.

Akinlade, along with his accomplices Rasak Abiodun, Adefabi Gbolahan, and Rilwan Olaloye, was arrested in the Mushin area of Lagos after a stolen phone led officers to their hideout.

The suspects reportedly targeted distracted motorists during heavy traffic, stealing phones, bags, and other valuables. After their robberies, they would hand the stolen items to their leader, who sold them and gave the proceeds back to the suspects. Akinlade disclosed that the gang members used the money they made to buy drugs and gamble.

In his confession, Akinlade revealed that they often targeted areas with poor road conditions, where vehicles had to slow down, making it easier to rob their victims.

Following their arrest, the suspects have been interrogated and are set to be charged in court. Authorities have warned that other individuals engaging in similar criminal activities could face the same consequences.

The Lagos Task Force also conducted a raid on Tuesday, arresting 53 individuals suspected of drug-related offenses in parts of Alimosho and Egbeda. Several items believed to be drugs were recovered during the operation.
