In a recent development, the Lagos State Police Command has apprehended a 30-year-old technician, Emmanuel Achogwu, for the theft of solar panels installed to power streetlights across the state.
The arrest, as reported by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, occurred on Monday and sheds light on the increasing incidents of solar panel vandalism. Hundeyin shared the information on his official account, stating, “Recently, #followlasg installed some solar-powered streetlights in some parts of the state. A few weeks later, the solar panels are being stolen.”
The police responded promptly to reports of the thefts and initiated an investigation. Achogwu was subsequently arrested by officers from Alausa Division on Ikosi Road, caught with four stolen solar panels shortly after their removal.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect was one of the technicians contracted to install the solar-powered streetlights, adding a layer of complexity to the case. The investigation is ongoing, aiming to uncover the extent of involvement and potential motives behind the thefts.
