Terrorists Abduct Four in Fresh Attack on Kwara’s Kakafu Community

Ilorin, Feb 16, 2026 A group of roughly ten armed terrorists stormed Kakafu, an ancient town in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State, on Sunday morning, kidnapping four residents and sending shockwaves through the rural community.

According to local sources, the attackers fired sporadic shots into the air to create panic, causing villagers to flee in all directions. Amid the chaos, four people—believed by residents to be mostly women—were seized and forced into a nearby forest. Their identities have not yet been officially confirmed.

A resident who asked to remain anonymous said many locals have already fled to neighboring towns for safety. “The attack is another disturbing sign of the worsening security situation in rural parts of the state, where armed groups now operate with little resistance,” the source added.

The Sunday abduction follows a violent incident just 24 hours earlier. On Saturday, suspected bandits attacked a vigilante and community‑guard checkpoint along Gamji Road in Gbugbu, also in Patigi LGA. During that assault, a Nigerian Army officer was shot in the leg and a vigilante operative sustained a serious forehead injury.Terrorists Abduct Four in Fresh Attack on Kwara’s Kakafu Community

A senior police officer at the Patigi Divisional Police Headquarters, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed both incidents. “We are working with other security agencies to rescue the victims and ensure the protection of life and property of residents,” the officer said.

Security forces say they are intensifying operations in the area to track down the perpetrators and prevent further attacks.
