The Delta State Police Command has arrested five suspects in connection with a kidnapping syndicate operating in the Ogwashi-Ukwu forests. The police recovered N5m in ransom from the gangsters. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, the suspects were allegedly responsible for a series of kidnappings in the area.

The Special Anti-kidnapping and Cybercrime Squad, led by CSP Godwin Osadolor, trailed the suspected kidnappers to their hideout on July 16 2025. One of the suspects, Sanusi Abdulahi, was arrested in possession of the ransom. The suspect led the operatives to their hideout, where four other members of the gang were arrested.
The police said a preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were involved in several kidnappings in the area. The investigation is ongoing, and the police are working to uncover more details about the gang’s activities.
In a separate operation on July 16 2025, operatives of the CP-Special Assignment Team raided the hideouts of a group of suspects along the Patani-Ughelli Expressway. The suspects engaged the security operatives in a fierce gun duel, during which six of them were killed, and two others were injured. The police recovered four locally-made guns and 19 rounds of live cartridges from the suspects.
