Babajide Sanwo-Olu was re-elected as governor of Lagos state in the wee hours of Monday, but his victory has not been without controversy.
Mr Sanwo-Olu received 762,134 votes, while his primary opponents, Olajide ‘Jandor’ Adediran of the PDP, collected 62,449 votes and Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the LP, polled 312,329. The results were announced by INEC’s Returning officer Adenike Oladiji.
Threats to voters, inflammatory rhetoric, and tribal propaganda were all blamed on the APC party in the days leading up to the election.
Videos of political thugs roaming parts of Lagos on election day, intimidating voters who didn’t support the APC governorship candidate, went viral.
Rapper Folarin Falana, better known by his stage name Falz, responded to the Governor-tweet elect’s of victory on Monday, calling Mr Sanwo-election Olu’s a “deceitful win” in light of the rapper’s reaction to the news.
We did not re-elect you. You made a choice. Everyone watched as it happened. You’re fooling no one but yourself,” he wrote.
