Three Dismissed Officers to Face Court Over Killing of Kwara Polytechnic Student

The Kwara State Police Command announced plans to prosecute three police officers implicated in the killing of Qoyum Abdulyekeen Ishola, a student at Kwara State Polytechnic.

Commissioner of Police Victor Olaiya confirmed the officers have been dismissed following a thorough investigation and internal disciplinary trial. The dismissed officers are identified as Inspectors Abiodun Kayode and James Emmanuel, and Sergeant Oni Philip.

In a statement detailing the findings of the investigation into Ishola’s death, the police outlined that the officers were found guilty of several offenses, including leaving their assigned area, engaging in corrupt practices, and unlawfully exercising their authority. Their dismissals took effect on October 4, 2024, and they will soon be arraigned in court.

The tragic incident occurred on September 4, 2024, during a stop-and-search operation in the Fate area of Ilorin. Following Ishola’s death, students protested at the state police headquarters and the Government House, demanding justice and accountability.

The Commissioner expressed condolences to Ishola’s family and emphasized the police force’s commitment to justice and professionalism. He also urged the public to remain patient as the legal process unfolds.
