It was discovered that the suspects contacted the victims’ families following the kidnapping and demanded a N1.7 million ransom.
The incident was confirmed on Wednesday by Andrew Ayande, Chairman of the Gwer West Local Government Area. He stated that the region was well-known for criminal activity.
Ayande said, “This episode occurred on Tuesday; On Monday, we lost a prominent person in the area, and on Tuesday, they took the body home. As usual, the criminals showed up and attacked the people in one of the vehicles.
“A policeman and two others were kidnapped around 4 p.m. at Ahume, Naka/Makurdi Road, and the victims’ vehicle has been taken to Naka Police Station,” reads the statement.
The chairman responded, “The abductors were demanding N200,000 from the family of the police, N1m from the woman, and they also demanded N500,000 from the other victim,” when asked if the abductors had contacted the victims’ relatives.
When contacted, Catherine Anene, the state Police Public Relations Officer, stated that the report had not yet been received.
