Tinubu Congratulates Winners of August 16 By-Elections Across 12 States

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended heartfelt congratulations to all those victorious in the by-elections held on Saturday, August 16, in 16 constituencies spanning 12 states of the federation.

In a statement released on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for organising a smooth, largely peaceful electoral process—one that was “mostly devoid of violence.”

According to the results declared by INEC:

President Tinubu specifically lauded the APC’s newly appointed National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, for the party’s emphatic first win under his leadership. “Chairman Yilwatda has shown leadership capacity and demonstrated what is achievable when popular candidates are fielded and with unity of purpose among party leaders,” he remarked.

He went on to thank APC governors and other party leaders for their roles in the electoral success. Tinubu also conveyed appreciation to all APC supporters and the electorate for their confidence in the party, affirming that the “Renewed Hope” slogan is more than just words. “Our destination is a better, more secure and prosperous Nigeria. We shall take you there, by the Grace of God,” he vowed.

Beyond praising his party, the President commended all political parties and candidates who participated in the election, urging them to uphold sportsmanship and magnanimity—principles he noted are essential to fortifying Nigeria’s democratic spirit.

In summary, Tinubu’s message underscores not only his support for winning candidates but also the importance of peaceful and fair democratic processes in Nigeria’s ongoing journey toward stability and prosperity.
