According to a news report, officials from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the mobile police were attacked by drug hawkers and touts in Abuja. The NAFDAC enforcement team was conducting a raid on fake and counterfeit drugs at a motor park when they were attacked by the hawkers and touts.
The mobile police had to intervene by using tear gas and shooting into the air to disperse the attackers. Two vehicles belonging to NAFDAC were vandalized during the incident.
The raid was conducted based on intelligence received from the Department of State Security regarding the activities of drug hawkers at the motor park. The seized drugs during the raid were estimated to be worth about N5 million, and they included controlled substances such as Rohypnol, Dizapam, Tramadol, Cocodamol, and aphrodisiacs.
