The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, was in the process of fetching water from a well within the estate when the unfortunate event took place. At the time, there was a power outage in the compound, prompting her to seize the opportunity to collect water. However, amidst her task, power was unexpectedly restored, leading to a fatal encounter with a naked cable connected to the pumping machine inside the well.

The sudden jolt of electricity proved fatal, claiming the life of the young girl. The grim discovery was made by those in the vicinity, who promptly alerted the authorities. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the tragic incident, revealing that the girl was pronounced dead by a doctor upon arrival at the hospital.

According to reports, the Divisional Police Officer of Lafenwa received a report from a concerned individual, detailing the sequence of events leading to the electrocution. It was revealed that the victim, who was living with her relatives in the estate, ventured out to fetch water during the blackout. However, the restoration of power occurred while she was still inside the well, leading to the fatal accident.

This devastating event echoes a similar tragedy that occurred in the state capital on November 7, 2023, when an electrician lost his life while attempting to assist a neighbor with an electrical fault. The electrician, working atop an electrical pole during an outage, met his demise when power was unexpectedly restored, underscoring the inherent dangers associated with electricity.

The loss of a young life under such circumstances serves as a somber reminder of the importance of safety measures and awareness regarding electrical hazards. As investigations into the incident commence, the community mourns the untimely passing of the 15-year-old girl, highlighting the need for vigilance and precautionary measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.

The incident serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the critical importance of safety precautions, particularly in environments where electrical hazards may pose a risk. As the community grapples with the shock and grief of this unfortunate event, efforts to raise awareness and promote safety measures become increasingly imperative to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
