The University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) on Monday commenced activities to mark the World Oral Health Day 2026, with the Chief Medical Director, Idia Ize-Iyamu, announcing a 50 per cent reduction on selected dental services.
The initiative, according to the hospital management, is aimed at promoting oral health awareness and improving access to essential dental care for members of the public.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony at the hospital’s Dental Clinic, Prof. Ize-Iyamu said the discounted services would run from March 16 to March 19, ahead of the global celebration on March 20.
She explained that patients would benefit from reduced costs on key dental procedures including scaling and polishing, tooth extractions, Glass Ionomer Cement (GIC) restorations, and dental radiographs.
The CMD noted that the initiative was designed to encourage individuals to prioritize their oral health by taking advantage of the subsidized treatments.
Prof. Ize-Iyamu also expressed support for the Nigerian Dental Association and commended efforts aimed at raising awareness about oral hygiene and preventive dental care.
“This show of love and strength is very heartwarming, and I am delighted to be here with you as you flag off the awareness walk,” she said.
The 2026 celebration of World Oral Health Day is themed “A Happy Mouth is a Happy Life.” It is observed annually to promote the importance of good oral hygiene and its impact on overall health and well-being.
