Late on Sunday night, a group of armed men, purportedly police officers and suspected political thugs, raided the residence of Edison Ehie, the factional Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly in Port Harcourt.
Ehie, who had declared himself Speaker amid legislative turmoil, faced suspension by 24 lawmakers.
The attack’s details remain unclear, with uncertainties about damage or casualties.
While it’s suggested that the security team thwarted a potential assassination attempt, conflicting narratives emerge, with a statement alleging involvement of a police tactical unit. The spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, is yet to provide information, leaving the situation unresolved.
