Upholding Tradition: The Consequences of Betrayal in Benin Kingdom

In the intricate tapestry of Benin Kingdom’s rich cultural heritage, loyalty to tradition is not merely a choice but a sacred duty. Recently, the peaceful rhythm of this ancient realm was disrupted by the sacrilegious conduct of one of its own, Mr. Matthew Uwaifo. His actions during a visit to the Ooni of Ife not only betrayed the essence of Benin’s traditions but also undermined the authority of our revered monarch, Oba Ewuare II, N’Ogidigan.

The Uwaifo Family, rooted deeply in the traditions and values of the Benin Kingdom, unequivocally denounces Mr. Matthew’s transgressions. We stand resolute in our allegiance to the Oba of Benin, from whose lineage we draw our identity and purpose. Our loyalty is not a mere formality; it is a sacred bond forged through generations, a commitment to safeguarding the sanctity of our culture and honouring our monarch’s sovereignty.

Mr. Matthew Uwaifo’s reckless claims and irresponsible actions are not reflective of our family’s values or principles. He has acted alone, without the endorsement or support of the Uwaifo Family. In light of his egregious behaviour, he has been suspended from all activities associated with our family. This decisive action underscores our unwavering commitment to upholding the dignity of our traditions and holding individuals accountable for their actions.

The repercussions of Mr Matthew’s betrayal extend beyond the confines of our family; they tarnish the reputation of Benin Kingdom and cast a shadow over our collective heritage. Such acts of disloyalty erode the foundations of our society and threaten the unity that binds us together as a people.

As we navigate through this challenging period, let us reassert our allegiance to the Oba of Benin and reaffirm our dedication to preserving the integrity of our cultural heritage. Let us stand united in defence of our monarch and our traditions, drawing strength from the legacy of our ancestors and the resilience of our spirit.

May God Almighty continue to bless and protect His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II, N’Ogidigan, and may his reign be characterized by peace, prosperity, and the enduring legacy of Benin Kingdom’s traditions.
