US Congressman Riley Moore Welcomes Reported Arrest of Mahmoud Adam in Nigeria.

United States Congressman Riley Moore has welcomed the reported arrest of Mahmoud Adam, a Plateau State based figure whom the lawmaker described as an alleged terrorist leader linked to attacks on Christians in Nigeria.

Moore, a Republican representing West Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District, made the remarks in a post on X on Saturday, October 3, 2026. He credited Nigerian authorities with the reported operation and linked the development to the growing security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States.

According to reports cited by US-based Daily Caller, Adam was arrested in the early hours of September 12 at his compound in Plateau State. The publication identified him as a prominent Fulani community leader while alleging that he was secretly associated with a Fulani militia network accused of violence in Nigeria’s Middle Belt.

The Daily Caller report also relied on information from a whistleblower and photographs said to show Adam’s interactions with Nigerian political and military figures. It further alleged that a senator had previously intervened following an earlier arrest. These claims have not been independently established by Nigerian authorities in the reports reviewed for this article, and the allegations should therefore be treated as claims rather than established facts.

Moore said the reported arrest demonstrated progress under the Nigeria US security cooperation arrangement. His comments are consistent with his broader public focus on insecurity and attacks against Christian communities in Nigeria. In November 2025, he met senior Nigerian officials, including National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and then Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa, to discuss terrorism, security assistance and the protection of vulnerable communities.

The reported development comes amid continued international attention on insecurity in Nigeria, particularly violence affecting communities in the North East and Middle Belt. Moore has previously called for stronger cooperation between Washington and Abuja, while Nigerian authorities have maintained that security agencies are working to counter terrorist and criminal groups operating across the country.

At the time of publication, the available reports did not provide sufficient official documentation to independently establish the full scope of the allegations against Adam or the specific charges he may face. Further clarification from Nigerian security agencies and judicial authorities would be necessary to establish the legal status of the case.

The reported arrest nevertheless places renewed attention on Nigeria US counterterrorism cooperation and the broader security challenges facing communities affected by armed violence.
