A US F-35C fighter jet shot down an Iranian Shahed-139 drone that “aggressively approached” the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier in the Arabian Sea on February 4, 2026. The drone was destroyed in self-defense, and no American troops were harmed or equipment damaged. The incident occurred about 500 miles from Iran’s southern coast, according to Central Command spokesman Captain Tim HawkinsUS Downs Iranian Drone Near Aircraft Carrier Amid Rising Tensions

The downing of the drone comes as the US and Iran are set to resume talks, with US envoy Steve Witkoff expected to meet Iranian officials later this week. However, tensions remain high, with Iran’s president Masoud Pezeshkian insisting talks will only proceed without threats, and US President Donald Trump warning of “bad things” if a deal isn’t reached

In a separate incident, Iranian forces harassed a US-flagged tanker, M/V Stena Imperative, in the Strait of Hormuz, prompting a US destroyer to respond with air support. The tanker was escorted to safety, and no injuries were reported

The US and Iran have been at odds over Iran’s nuclear program, with the US opposing it and Iran insisting it’s for civilian purposes. The talks aim to address this and other issues, including Iran’s missile program and support for proxy forces

  • Kidnap of Dr. Babatunde: Edo Police Arrest Three Suspects in AuchiThe Edo State Police Command has recorded further breakthroughs in the ongoing investigation into the kidnap of Dr. Abu Babatunde, following successive arrests made during sustained intelligence-led operations in Auchi and surrounding areas. The first arrest was recorded on February 3, 2026, when operatives of the Auchi Division, in collaboration with local hunters and vigilante groups, conducted a routine bush-combing operation at Warake Forest based on actionable intelligence. During the operation, one suspect, Saminu Kawujie (male), was intercepted. A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of: Two (2) knives Two (2) mobile phones One (1) UBA ATM card Cash sum of Twenty Thousand, Two Hundred and Fifty Naira (₦20,250) An identification parade was subsequently conducted at the police station, during which the suspect was positively identified as one of the abductors of Dr. Abu Babatunde. In a related development, on February 8, 2026, at about 9:00 a.m., the Divisional Police Officer, acting on further intelligence related to the same case, mobilized operatives to the Specialist Hospital, Auchi, where two additional suspects—Idris Abubakar (male) and Sani Abubakar (male)—were arrested at the hospital premises.
