Gunmen ambushed a convoy of Daewoo workers on the Ahoada/Abua stretch of the East-West Road in Rivers State, resulting in the tragic killing of four soldiers, two drivers, and the reported kidnapping of two expatriates on Tuesday.
The attack occurred around 9:30 am while the convoy was en route to Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. The assailants, believed to be behind the resurgence of criminal activities in the area, targeted the expatriate workers escorted by troops, opening fire and causing the casualties.
Efforts are underway to gather more details, with a possibility that the attack could be linked to recent military operations in the region.
The spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, was not aware of the incident when contacted. The 6 Division, Nigeria Army, confirmed the attack, expressing condolences for the soldiers killed and vowing to eliminate criminal activities in the Niger Delta region.
The public is urged to provide credible intelligence to aid in apprehending the perpetrators.
